On the occasion of the 2019 Frieze Week, Molteni&C|Dada presented a sound installation by artist Emiliano Maggi, composed specifically for the Molteni&C|Dada Flagship Store on Brompton Road.
Entitled Tunes & Preludes, this new sound piece, which will be aired from 1 to 6 October throughout the 700 square metres of the Brompton Road store, is inspired by the work of British musician and early music historian David Munrow (1942-1976). “I believe music can play a very important role for a visual artist”, says Maggi “and Munrow’s compositions and recordings have been the soundtrack of my practices many times. Then I discovered, inside the V&A Collection, ( the V&A museum is situated opposite the Molteni Flagship Store ), an exercise book that contains handwritten manuscripts of four plays by David Munrow, produced during his childhood in the 1950s. The sound installation Tunes & Preludes is about paying tribute to a Master”.
In addition to this site-specific installation, the Molteni&C space features sculptures by Maggi himself and by other young Italian artists (Giuseppe Buzzotta; Alessandro Dandini de Sylva, Cleo Fariselli, Matteo Nasini and Vincenzo Schillaci) as part of The Collector’s House, a project curated by Caroline Corbetta with which Molteni&C sets contemporary art alongside design.
