Monk is all in the expressive quality of the materials: Italian walnut, natural ash, leather and raw cloth. Seat and backrest are made of leather or cloth, fitted over two tubular steel sections, providing an extremely comfortable shape. The legs, made from solid wooden planks, joined two by two by means of crosspieces, support the tubular sections.

I had imagined it as a single piece, so that it would be more economical. But Angelo Molteni corrected the design: ‘No, no – he said – we do things properly’. So then we came up with an iron skeleton, stretched between two identical frames, which formed the seat.
